This is a museum-quality antique toddler-sized child's cap. This style has been called various names over the years including "Jockey" hats, "Baker Boy" caps, "Newsboy" caps, and even "beanie" hats. They were popular for boys and men around the 1910 era. It was worn closely fitted to the head and features a narrow brim.
The outside is soft, thin deerskin leather and the inside is lined with a silky material. It is in amazing antique condition for approximately 120 years old. The fabric has some fraying along the front side of the lining. (See images.) The cap was both machine and hand-stitched. It is all original and there are no apparent repairs to the garment.
The cap comes with an archival textile mount made of linen-covered ethafoam. This will help the cap retain its condition and shape while in storage or on display. A sweet addition to any vintage clothing collection.
